Looking for attractive yields from the private sector? Business development companies, BDCs, offer retail investors exposure to the private sector. They invest in non-publicly-traded companies in a variety of ways, either through debt or equity, or both. This company just reported another good fiscal quarter (period ending 12/31/20). Quarterly net investment income rose 20% year-over-year, and total investment income rose 19%. Management increased the quarterly dividend and maintained the supplemental dividend for March.
Capital Southwest (CSWC) is an internally-managed business development company specializing in credit and private equity and venture capital investments in lower and middle-market companies. CSWC has been on quite a tear since we last covered it in one of our articles in early November '20 - it's up 29% in price, and has a total return of 32%.
